The Windsinger Chimes of King David is the largest chime in the Woodstock line — a massive, deep-toned piece named for the Biblical King David, a shepherd, warrior, and poet whose lyre-playing was said to calm a troubled king. Six super-thick-walled aluminum tubes are specially suspended to resonate far longer than an ordinary chime, bathing the space in slow, layered waves of sound.
Like all Windsinger chimes, it's hand-tuned using "just intonation" — an ancient system based on natural harmonics, where the tubes' frequencies relate to one another by simple whole-number ratios, here built around an ancient Chinese pentatonic scale.
